On November 16, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church, Maina-Corgao, Pernem, Goa.
Mr. Pereira had earlier addressed the priests of the Pernem Deanery during their monthly meeting, which includes eight parishes. Following this, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Clifford Castellino, invited him to speak to the parishioners after the weekly church announcements.
During the session, Gabriel clarified that individuals who pass away at home cannot donate organs but may still donate tissues or their whole body. He explained that organ donation is possible only after a person is declared brain dead, and even then, it proceeds only with the family’s consent and based on the condition of the organs. He also informed the parishioners about the licensed transplant hospitals in Goa where organ and tissue transplants take place, highlighting that there are currently 83 patients awaiting kidney transplants.
Due to limited time, he requested the Parish Priest to share the presentation video—including an animated short film created by Shweta Gupta and a brain-death explainer—through the Parish WhatsApp group to ensure wider access and deeper understanding.
Gabriel, along with volunteers, distributed around 500 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) flyers outside the church.
He expressed his gratitude to Rev. Fr. Clifford Castellino, the PPC members, and the parishioners for their support and for giving MOHAN Foundation the opportunity to engage with the community.
