Organ Donation Awareness Programme for the Air force Station Cadets and Ex- Servicemen Welfare Association, Avadi

  • On 12th October 2014 a second Organ Donation Awareness Programme was organized for the Air Force Station Cadets and Ex- Service men Welfare Association at Narendra Theater, Avadi. Near 300 people participated. They represented Service Men, Ex- service men, Ex- service men family members, Kendriya Vidyalaya  students and teachers.   

     

    The session started with the welcome address by Dr. G. K Nair. Following that Ms. S. Kavitha, marketing coordinator  MOHAN Foundation took over the stage. She concentrated on the following topics:

    • Concepts of Brain Death and Organ Donation
    • Live and Cadaver Donation
    • Organs that can be transplanted
    • Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994
    • Myths and facts on Organ Donation
    • Importance of counsellors
    • About MOHAN Foundation Activities
    • Tamilnadu Network for Organ Sharing
    • Information sources – the website and helpline number

     

    At end of the session many raised question like:

    1. Who are not fit for transplantation?
    2. What  tests  will be done before they remove an organ?
    3. Whether a  transplanted organ can be transplanted again?
    4. Are we allowed to give organs to whom we prefer?
    5. Is the Donor card universally accepted?
    6. Why is there no National registry?

     

    All the queries were answered.  All  adults were given pledge forms. The Association promised to collect the  filled forms and  distribute donor cards.
