


MOHAN Foundation conducted an Organ Donation Awareness program for the Nephrology Department of Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital on July 1, 2016. The Nephrology department of PIMS is one among two institutes which conduct renal transplants in Puducherry. The dialysis unit conducts peritoneal dialysis in Puducherry and it was apt to conduct the session in their department. Mr. Ruban Victor, Transplant Coordinator represented MOHAN Foundation and conducted the session.
The session focused on the difference between live transplants and deceased transplants. How they can help a person who wants to donate their eyes, how to keep the eyes moist was explained. What are the major causes of Brain Death and what are the organs which can be donated after brain death was discussed in detail. The ischemic time taken for the organs to be transplanted from one patient to another was elaborated in detail.
The importance of pledging the donor card and how it helps in fulfilling the last wish of the donor was explained. Mr. Ajith, Manager, Nephrology Department and 15 staff members attended the session. 10 staff members picked a donor card and registered as organ donors.
