  • On May 31, 2025, a group of 16 driven individuals completed the online "Module 2" of the Organ Donation Ambassadors program. This 36th group of trainees was partially funded by the Hema Memorial Trust.  A gratitude workshop, expert contact, and knowledge of how to organize public awareness campaigns were all part of the  2.5 hour program.

Dr. Hemal Kanvinde gave a brief overview of the program and expectations at the beginning of Module 2. The introduction session was led by Ms. Arshiya, and each candidate gave a brief introduction. A liver donor was among the ambassadors.

The second session was interactions with experts in the field of donation and transplantation.  The experts were:

Dr Nagraj Naik, Assoc. Prof, Dept of Nephrology, SDM Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital

Mr. Nikhil Vyas, Transplant Coordinator, KD Hospital Ahmedabad

Mr. Chandrasekaran K, Hemal memorial Trust, Mumbai

Mr. Anant Acharya, Kidney recipient, Bengaluru

Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager MF, Delhi NCR and

Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Q&A Officer MOHAN Foundation.

Interactions between the specialists and the volunteer ambassadors were swift. How to persuade family members to donate, how doctors or transplant coordinators feel after a successful donation, how medical colleges use body-after-body donations, and how to handle young donors whose organs are sick were all topics of discussion. The specialists talked about their experiences waiting for a transplant, living after one, and taking medication after one. Organ preservation: is it practical to maintain an organ box in each district? How are the organs kept in good condition and how are they transported? The transplant coordinator talked about a hospital case that didn't work out and how he started an organ donation campaign.

After that, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi led the group in a gratitude workshop. She talked about the recipient's emotions and the donor family. She requested that the applicants write as though they had received an organ and wanted to thank the families of the donors. Following the trainees' reading of their letters, Dr. Muneet offered commentary. All of the candidates experienced intense emotion during the session.

The last session was how to raise awareness about organ donation. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde led this workshop and demonstrated the various ways to raise awareness, ranging from simple speeches and demonstrations to conferences, online platforms, and the use of art and regional culture to spread the word.

The Ambassadors were thankful for the session, gave their feedback and promised to start their activities. They also expressed their wish that they will spread organ donation.
