MOHAN Foundation conduct awareness session for a Self Help Group

  • On 16th April 2016 an awareness talk on organ donation was organized by Mrs. Vinitha Subramaniyam, leader of Self Help Group (SHG). She wanted to make her Group meet more meaningful and pass the message to support the concept of organ donation.  The participants of the programme were members of Roja SHG in Poonamallee Chennai.  They requested MOHAN Foundation to depute the speaker for the programme. Ms. Gieetha, Transplant coordinator MOHAN Foundation conducted the session on the important of saving life through organ donation.

     

    The session started with informal interaction to gauge their level of understanding about organ donation. This was followed be discussion on the myths in organ donation.

     

    The following topics were covered during the talk:

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    • Organs that can be donated in cardiac death and brain death
    • Eye donation
    • Importance of Donor card
    • Use of helmet.

    Totally 45 SHG members participated in the programme and 16 of them picked a donor card. At the end of the session Ms. Gieetha thanked Mrs. Vinitha Subramaniyam for her efforts.
