MOHAN Foundation at Blood & Organ Donation Camp and Tree Plantation Program in Ningthoukhong, Manipur.

  • On May 12, 2025, MOHAN Foundation was invited to participate in a blood and organ donation camp and a tree plantation program held at Sanamahi Sanglen, Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou. The event was organized to celebrate the 50th birthday of Mr. Okram Yoihenba Meitei, an exemplary and dedicated blood donor, and was coordinated by the Youth Development Association (YDA), Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, in collaboration with THASCO, Ningthoukhong, FARMER’S CLUB, Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Arambai Tenggol Unit 32, Indian Red Cross Society (Bishnupur District Branch), Department of Transfusion Medicine (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences – RIMS), Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC), Bishnupur, Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup, and Apunba Meira Paibi-Kha Khunou. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator-North East and Project Lead-Manipur at MOHAN Foundation, represented the Foundation at the event.

     

    As part of his birthday initiatives, Mr. Okram Yoihenba Meitei—who has donated blood 87 times and is also an organ donor—invited several experts. Ms. Monica from MOHAN Foundation was invited through the RIMS Transplant Programme as a key speaker on the topic of “Organ Donation.” The objective of participating in the event was to support the goal of educating the public about the importance of organ donation.

     

    The event was graced by several dignitaries and key figures, including the Maharaja of Manipur and Hon’ble MP (Rajya Sabha), Ningthou Shri Sanajaoba Leishemba; Hon’ble MLA of Bishnupur Assembly Constituency, Shri Govindas Konthoujam; Dr. W. Gulapi, Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur District Branch; Mutum Churamani Meetei, Secretary Administration of the Meetei/Meitei Tribe Union; Dr. Heirangkhongjam Ranjana Devi, Senior Resident at the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS; Sagapam Mangol Singh, Ex-President of THASCO, Ningthoukhong; and Okram Ongbi Chaoba Leima, mother of Mr. Okram Yoihenba. The event also saw the participation of various officials, local leaders, social workers, residents of Ningthoukhong, and other well-wishers who expressed their support for the cause.

     

    Ms. Monica delivered a detailed presentation on MOHAN Foundation’s efforts in promoting organ donation across India, with special emphasis on Manipur. She addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation and worked to dispel these from the minds of the attendees. She commended the efforts of Mr. Okram Yoihenba Meitei, acknowledging his dedication to the noble cause and his exemplary use of a personal milestone to promote a socially impactful initiative. She emphasized the role of collective responsibility in advancing the organ donation movement and urged all stakeholders—healthcare professionals, community leaders, and citizens—to actively participate in this life-saving cause for the greater good of society.

     

    Speaking at the event, Ningthou Shri Sanajaoba Leishemba issued a strong call to action, urging all citizens to come forward and support the cause of organ donation, stating, “Organ donation stands as one of the greatest acts of humanity.”

     

    MOHAN Foundation’s impactful participation helped draw significant public attention to the importance of organ donation. As a direct result, nine participants of the event successfully pledged to become organ donors, demonstrating the effectiveness of the program in inspiring commitment to this life-saving cause.

     

    Approximately 250 people attended the event, and nine individuals pledged to become organ donors.
