MOHAN Foundation Invited to conduct an awareness session on Organ Donation at Cloudnine Hospital, Patparganj, East Delhi

  • On October 19, 2022, MOHAN Foundation (MF) was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the employees of Cloudnine Hospital (CH), Patparganj. Mr. Vipin Uniyal, Marketing Manager, CH had reached out to Ms. Preeti Goswami, Programme Officer, MF, via email for conducting an awareness session on organ donation for CH employees.  Ms. Simran Anand, Program Officer, MF, then coordinated with Ms. Kirti Giri, HR, CH Patparganj, to organize the session. Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager, MF, NCR, was the resource person.

     

    The session was attended by Ms. Namita Narula, Head of Corporate Communication, Ms. Sonali Joshi, HR, nursing interns, ward nurses, ICU staff and staff from Food & Beverage, IT and HR departments.

     

    Dr. Muneet began by asking the participants to introduce themselves in order to break the ice. She also showed a motivational film to help the audience relax and become more comfortable with the  subject. She then used a PowerPoint presentation to introduce the topic of organ donation and its concepts.

     

    The term brain death was explained with the help of a short informative film. She explained to the participants the various steps involved in brain death declaration and clarified the concept of legal death.

     

    The following topics were explained in detail:  

    • Organ donation and its need
    • Status of organ donation in India
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplant Law
    • Cornea donation
    • Brain death
    • Causes of brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Role of Individuals/public in creating awareness
    • Organ donation - myths and facts

     

    Many participants shared their experiences with organ donation, which they had in different hospitals. The audience was informed about the process of becoming an organ donor as well as the importance of family dialogue regarding organ donation.

     

    Over all the session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few:

     

    • What is the difference between coma and brain death?
    • Brain death versus circulatory death: what is the difference?
    • Can transplantation be free in any hospital?
    • Can brain dead patient’s family choose who will get the organ?

     

    In the end, Ms. Namita expressed words of thanks to Dr. Muneet for the session and suggested that we write to Ms. Sofia Joseph, HR Head, Cloudnine Hospital, for organising the session for all the 23 branches of Cloudnine Hospital across India.

     

    Close to 27 participants attended the session.
