MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh - Session 222

  • On 6th January 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the secretary, Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their First Aid Students at Vivekanand Bhawan, Chandigarh. Around 15 participants from various parts of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh College Students, Patient Care Attendants, Home Nursing, Nannies and Bus Conductors participated in the program.

     

    Ms. Meenu Kamra, Training Supervisor addressed the gathering and gave a brief introduction on organ donation to the participants.

     

    Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch.

     

    In this talk, she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • She challenged 6 myths with 6 facts on organ donation
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Real life stories of an organ transplant being shared with the participants
    • Importance of the donor card
    • To pledge their organs they can register at MOHAN Foundation website
    • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

     

    The entire group got motivated and convinced to support organ donation. Around 15 participants attended the awareness session and 4 of them picked up their donor card and few pledges were filled online.
