MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Koirengei, Imphal East

  • On May 18, 2026, MOHAN Foundation in association with Arogya Ayusman Mandri (AAM), Keikol, conducted an awareness session on organ donation as part of Village Health Nutrition Day at Koirengei Mamang Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was conducted by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal, and she was accompanied by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal. The session was facilitated under the coordination of Mrs. Kheda Oinam, Community Health Officer (CHO), with the support of the staff of AAM, Keikol.

     

    Ms. Priya commenced the session by introducing the team and outlining the key objectives of the program. She provided a detailed explanation of organ and tissue donation, clearly distinguishing between living and deceased donation. She emphasized that organ and tissue donation offer a renewed chance at life for patients awaiting transplantation. Furthermore, she emphasized that a single organ donor can potentially save up to eight lives and highlighted the urgent need for greater public awareness and a collective sense of social responsibility.

     

    She also emphasized that the commercial trade of organs and tissues is strictly forbidden and punishable under the law. Addressing prevalent myths and misconceptions, she reassured the audience that organ and tissue donation does not cause disfigurement and that the dignity and honour of donor is maintained.

     

    Responding to a participant’s query, Ms. Priya elaborated on the advancements in organ donation initiatives in Manipur and highlighted the medical institutions where transplantation procedures have been successfully performed.

     

    The session concluded with Ms. Priya conveying her sincere appreciation to the attendees for their active participation. She also encouraged them to pledge their support for organ donation. Informational FAQs were distributed during the program, benefiting approximately 30 individuals.
