On May 26, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ and cornea donation in collaboration with Thuvakkam Foundation. Around 45 staff members participated in the session through hybrid mode, both online and offline.
The session commenced with a short film on organ donation to introduce the concept and create awareness among the participants. This was followed by an interactive Tamil movie quiz based on myths and facts related to organ donation, which encouraged active participation from the audience.
The session continued with Mrs. Arshiya, Senior Project Executive, who spoke on organ donation. She explained the concept of organ donation, the different types of donation, and elaborated on brain death and circulatory death. Recipient and donor stories were also shared to help participants understand the impact of organ donation. The session concluded with information on how individuals can pledge their organs.
Following this, Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, delivered a session on cornea donation awareness. She highlighted the increasing rate of corneal blindness in India and emphasized the importance of cornea donation. The process of cornea donation and the precautions to be taken after death were also explained in detail.
The session was interactive, and participants raised several questions, including whether there is an organ bank, if donor families receive any concessions, the time limit for hand transplantation, whether people with diabetes can donate organs, and how organs are matched between donors and recipients.
A total of 15 individuals came forward to pledge for organ and cornea donation.
MOHAN Foundation expressed its sincere gratitude to Mr. Prathiban, Admin Director, and the entire team of Thuvakkam Foundation for providing the opportunity and extending their support in successfully conducting the session.
