On August 29, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, All India Radio (AIR), and the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, collaborated to record a special radio programme to mark the 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight.
MOHAN Foundation facilitated and coordinated the initiative, ensuring the programme effectively spread awareness about eye donation. Hosted by Shri Hijam Chittaranjan Luwang of AIR Imphal, the discussion featured expert insights from Dr. Y. Chingsuingamba Meitei, Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, and Dr. Memota Laishram, Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, RIMS.
Dr. Meitei emphasized the importance of the Eye Donation Fortnight and this year’s theme, “Everyday Heroes,” highlighting the crucial role of public awareness and community participation in promoting eye donation. He encouraged individuals to understand that even small actions, such as pledging to donate their eyes, can have a profound impact in restoring vision and transforming lives.
Dr. Laishram elaborated on the process and significance of eye donation, stressing its life-saving potential and the ethical, social, and emotional dimensions associated with it. Her message sought to inspire listeners to view organ and eye donation as a deeply meaningful way of giving back to society.
The programme was delivered in Manipuri to ensure accessibility and local engagement and is scheduled to be broadcast on September 5, 2025, at 9:05 pm on 103.5 FM, Sangai Channel, AIR Imphal.
