Hislop College Science Club inaugural talk on Organ Donation by MOHAN Foundation

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede of MOHAN Foundation Nagpur Centre, was invited by members of Science Club of Hislop College on the occasion of their inaugural function. He was asked to sensitize the students, teaching & non-teaching staff by giving a talk on Organ Donation on 10th September 2013.

     

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede gave a presentation on following points.

    1)      What is organ & tissues?

    2)      What is Brain Death & Natural Death?

    3)      What is coma?

    4)      What is Live Donation?

    5)      What is difference between 1st degree & 2nd degree relation?

    6)      In case of natural death which tissue can be donate?

    7)      In case of brain death which organ & tissue can be donate?

    8)      What is THO Act?

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede emphasized that brain death person will never come back to life, families of such people can help several people to live. He said that people have their own religious  and cultural beliefs,  if they come out from the myths, understand what brain death is consent for organ donation, they will be able to help patients with end stage organ failure.  

     

    50 students attended the talk. The following questions were raised by the participants.

    1)      If anyone signed the pledge form then how MOHAN Foundation will know about that death has occurred?

    2)      Can any person re-donate his/her liver?

    3)      If anyone donates their organ after brain death, then their relatives get priority of their organs?

    4)      Can a 80 years old person donate his eyes?

    At the end of the program, the Science Club Secretary thanked Dr. Ravi Wankhede & MOHAN Foundation.
