‘Gift of Life’ Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Session Conducted at Govt. Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Nagpur

  • On June 19, 2026, MOHAN Foundation Nagpur conducted an Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Session at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Nagpur with the objective of creating awareness among students about organ donation and encouraging them to become informed advocates for this life-saving cause.

    On behalf of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Neha Sailwar & Mr. Dhiraj Kurve facilitated the session.

    During the session, Ms. Neha Sailwar shared detailed information on:

    1. What is organ and tissue donation
    2. Whether organ donation is legal in India
    3. The process of organ donation and transplantation
    4. Who can become an organ donor
    5. Living organ donation and deceased donation
    6. Difference between circulatory (cardiac) death and brain stem death
    7. Tissue donation after circulatory death
    8. Current deceased organ donation scenario and donation rates in India

    The session aimed to help students understand the importance of organ donation and clarify common myths & Facts to the subject.

    Following this, Mr. Dhiraj Kurve, Transplant Coordinator, shared his experiences from the field while working with families of potential donors. He explained the counselling process and highlighted various emotional and practical challenges faced during interactions with donor families. His real-life experiences helped participants understand the humanitarian and sensitive aspects of organ donation.

    At the end of the session, Ms. Neha Sailwar shared real-life stories of organ donation and transplantation to provide students with a deeper understanding of the impact of donation and inspire them to spread awareness within their communities.

    An interactive Question-and-Answer session was conducted where students actively raised thoughtful questions such as:

    1. Are patients charged money for receiving donated organs?
    2. How are donated organs allocated to recipients?

    All questions were addressed by the MOHAN Foundation team.

    Around 65 students attended the session and actively participated in the discussion.
