  • In continuation of the Organ Donation Ambassador Training, the 2nd module of interactions and workshop was held on Satd April 16, 2022. This was an online session and was attended by 9 ambassadors.  The training was conducted by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Program Manager, Delhi NCR and Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance officer, Chennai.

The first session was an introduction  about the Ambassador Program by Dr Hemal and followed by volunteers introducing themselves.  Post this there was an interaction with experts Dr Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, Ms Lalitha Raghuram. Country Director MOHAN Foundation and Dr N Sridhar, Consultant Intensivist, Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.  The Ambassador trainees gave their feedback to the Gift of Life course and asked their doubts. The discussion was on Gender aspects of living donors and its inclusion in the Gift of Life Course, making transplants available to all and what steps can be taken to do so,  setting up a skin bank,  lack of awareness of transplant option for dialysis patients,  wanting to create awareness among the police, and the main question was of why did Dr Shroff start this deceased donation program in India.  There were lively discussions and all queries were satisfactorily answered. One ambassador commented that he was part of a team that saw a brain death and certification in his hospital, so reading about it was like a confirmation.

In the next session, Dr Hemal explained the modes of communication of this cause to the public. She illustrated the different ways of creating awareness and  gave examples of work done by other Ambassadors. She also said the she and Dr Muneet were available for any help.

The next session was a Gratitude Communication workshop conducted by Dr Muneet. Ambassadors were asked to think of themselves as an organ recipient and write a thank you note to the donor family.  Guiding them with certain tips, she gave them a few minutes to express their gratitude in the form of a letter. It was a very emotional workshop and made a great difference to the trainees to write it.

Dr Muneet continued with a session on how to make a simple basic presentation on Organ Donation.  She enumerated the most basic information to be provided to the audience, that includes  explanation of brain death, donor  card and addressing the myths.   At the end of the workshop she reminded them that they were expected to do two programs on organ donation.

In conclusion, Dr  Hemal reiterated that the Ambassadors would be given some resource materials to start their program.  MOHAN Foundation thanks all experts for their time.
