Chaobi Nursing Institute, Porompat. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, conducted the programme.

The awareness campaign was launched in collaboration with Prof. Kh. Lokeshwar Singh, JNIMS's Medical Superintendent, and Ms. Mutum Jibanlata Devi, JNIMS's Nursing Superintendent. The campaign will involve several awareness sessions for students come to JNIMS for clinical activities. Clinical teachers from the participating institutions as well as Ms. Saroja Devi, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, JNIMS, oversaw the campaign. Participants in the session were the nursing students and the clinical teachers who accompanied them.

The MOHAN Foundation team was welcomed by the faculties and the students. Ms. Monica began the session by asking participants about their understanding of organ donation and transplantation. She continued the session by introducing the MOHAN Foundation, its objectives, and its visions.

The presentation began with a brief overview of living kidney transplantation happening in the state of Manipur. Ms. Monica cited the real challenges faced by the family members of the patients who do not have a donor but are enrolled in the organ transplant waiting list and are hoping for a miracle to happen. Students were explained the scenario of organ donation, the need and availability status, the issues of organ trading in India, and the only way to curb this practice with a robust deceased organ donation programme. Then, she narrated the deceased organ donations done in Manipur. She also shared the difference between brain death and circulatory death, the myths and facts of organ donation, and the importance of family consent in organ donation. She also introduced the professional courses offered by MF and explained to them the careers they could obtain.

Later, a few students shared their experiences with organ donation and transplantation. One of them explained the challenges faced by their family when their father was diagnosed with chronic liver disease, but no one was compatible to be a donor. And his father succumbed to death after a long battle.

Following that, Ms. Udayini had a brief interaction with the participants, discussing how to be an organ donor and who was ready to pledge organ donation at the moment. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on organ donation were also distributed to the participants for a better understanding of the topic.

At the end of the session, clinical instructors appreciated the MF team and requested to take a few more sessions for the different batches of the institutes.

Close to 50 participants attended the session, and 24 of them pledged to donate organs, including 1 clinical instructor.
