On February 12, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness session at the New Out Patient Department (OPD) Block, RIMS. The Foundation was represented by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Programme Executive, and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Programme Executive.
The session was conducted by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, who began by introducing the concept of organ donation and assessing the participants’ existing awareness on the subject. She provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation, emphasizing how a single act of generosity can save multiple lives. She also shared the history of organ donation in Manipur and information about the centres where transplant procedures are carried out.
Ms. Priya addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation, clarified doubts raised by participants, and encouraged them to make informed decisions. Highlighting that organs need not be buried or cremated when they can instead be used to save lives, she described organ donation as one of the highest forms of compassion and selflessness even after death. She further explained the provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), stressing that the buying and selling of organs is a punishable offence under the law.
The session concluded with Ms. Priya motivating participants to pledge for organ donation through the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) website. Informational leaflets on organ donation were also distributed to enhance awareness and understanding.
Close to 30 people were reached through the awareness session.
