Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Shivalik Bhagirathi Public School, Rishikesh

  • On September 23, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Lions Club Rishikesh Devbhoomi, conducted an organ donation awareness session at Shivalik Bhagirathi Public School, Rishikesh. The invitation was extended by Mr. Laxman Chauhan, Director, Shivalik Bhagirathi Public School.

     

    Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader – MOHAN Foundation (posted at AIIMS Rishikesh), served as the resource person for the session. The program was attended by members of the Lions Club, school staff, and students.

     

    The session began with Mr. Arora inviting participants to share their knowledge of organ donation. He then elaborated on the current status of organ donation in India, addressing the following key points:

     

    • What organ donation is and why it is important

    • Who can be an organ donor

    • Live and deceased donors

    • Organ donation during life and after death

    • Concept of brain death

    • Differences between coma and brain death

    • Eye and skin donation, and steps required to preserve corneas after death

    • The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    • Whole body donation

    • Living kidney transplantation facility at AIIMS Rishikesh

    • Common myths and facts about organ donation

    • How individuals can contribute to this noble cause

    • Goals and objectives of MOHAN Foundation & the Anudaan initiative

     

    During the interactive segment, participants raised questions, including one on organ donation rates in India.

     

    Mr. Arora concluded the session by encouraging staff and students to discuss organ donation with their families, friends, and colleagues before making a pledge.

     

    The session ended with students applauding the efforts of MOHAN Foundation and Lions Club, and many expressed their intention to speak with their families and pledge to organ donation.

     

    Close to 130 participants attended the session.
