An awareness session on eye donation was conducted for the senior citizens and general public at Ram Nagar and Bhangarecha Pada in Tal Jawhar on Saturday, 8th November 2025. The program was organized to educate the local community about the importance of eye donation and to address common doubts regarding the process. Ms. Prachiti Mali from MOHAN Foundation was invited as the resource speaker for the session.
Ms. Prachiti Mali began by introducing MOHAN Foundation and highlighting its mission of promoting organ and eye donation across the country. She then explained the concept of eye donation in detail, covering the causes of corneal blindness, precautions, the importance of corneal tissue, and the eligibility criteria for donation. She emphasized that there is no upper age limit for donating corneas and clarified that most individuals, including senior citizens, remain eligible to donate.
The session also covered important legal aspects involved in the eye donation process, such as the role of the next of kin in providing consent after death and the need to inform the eye bank within six hours. Ms. Prachiti addressed commonly held myths and misconceptions surrounding eye donation and provided factual explanations to help the participants understand the realities of the process.
A total of 20 members from the general public attended the session. Participants showed good interest, and some pledged their support toward the cause. During the interactive segment, one of the main questions raised was, “What is the procedure for corneal donation?” Ms. Prachiti explained the step-by-step process, including contacting the eye bank, the retrieval procedure handled by trained technicians, and the respectful treatment of the donor’s body.
