Updated on Friday, December 5, 2025
  • An awareness session on eye donation was organized for the employees and staff of Kanta Hospital at Palghar on Friday, November 14, 2025. The session aimed to educate healthcare personnel about the significance of eye donation and to address commonly held doubts related to the donation process. MOHAN Foundation’s representative, Ms. Prachiti Mali, was invited as the resource speaker.

Ms. Prachiti Mali began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and highlighting its mission to promote organ and eye donation across India. She explained the concept of eye donation in detail, covering topics such as corneal blindness, its causes, necessary precautions, and the age-related eligibility criteria. She emphasized that there is no upper age limit for corneal donation and clarified that most individuals, irrespective of age and general health conditions, remain eligible to donate their eyes.

The session also touched upon the legal aspects of eye donation, including the requirement of consent from the next of kin and the need to inform the eye bank within six hours after death. Ms. Prachiti addressed several myths and misconceptions associated with eye donation and replaced them with clear, factual information to ensure that the staff had a thorough understanding of the process.

A total of 25 employees and staff members attended the session. Although no pledges were recorded, the participants engaged actively with the content. One of the key questions asked during the session was, “Is a Donor Card compulsory for donation?” Ms. Prachiti clarified that while a Donor Card is useful to express one’s wish to donate, it is not compulsory, as the final consent after death is provided by the family.

The session proved to be informative and helpful for the hospital staff. MOHAN Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to Kanta Hospital at Palghar for their cooperation and for supporting the noble cause of organ and eye donation by organizing this awareness session.
