Awareness Program on Organ donation and Transplantation conducted at Eye OPD AGMC & GBP, Agartala

  • On June 3, 2026 an organ donation awareness session was conducted at the Eye OPD of Agartala Government Medical College & Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, Kunjaban, Agartala West Tripura under the initiative of MOHAN Foundation. The programme was organized to spread awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation among patients, attendants, and visitors at the hospital.

     

    The session was conducted by Mr. Biswajit Debbarma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Tripura, where he introduced the role of the foundation in promoting organ donation and explained the need for regular public education on the subject.

     

    During the session, leaflets and other awareness materials were distributed to help participants understand the message more clearly.

     

    Mr. Debbarma spoke about the significance of cornea donation, the difference between living and deceased donation, and how a single donor can save or improve the lives of multiple recipients. He also spoke about the process of how eye retrieval is done from the deceased person. He also emphasized the need to dispel misconceptions surrounding organ donation and encourage open discussions about it within families.

     

    The programme was interactive and well received by the participants. A total of 12 participants attended the session, allowing for meaningful discussion and direct engagement in the Eye OPD setting.
