On 19 May 2026, an organ donation awareness session was conducted at the Nephrology Outpatient Department (OPD) of Agartala Government Medical College & Govind Ballabh Pant (AGMC & GBP) Hospital. The programme was held in the Nephrology OPD area, with the main objective of reaching out to kidney disease patients, their caregivers, and accompanying relatives, who are potential advocates and recipients of organ donation.
The awareness session was conducted by Ms. Nipa Modak,Program Executive MOHAN Foundation, Tripura.
The primary objectives of the programme were to create awareness about organ and tissue donation and to highlight the role of kidney transplantation in the management of kidney disease. The programme also aimed to dispel common myths and misconceptions, such as religious prohibition, fear of bodily mutilation, or the existence of a commercial organ trade, and to promote a better understanding of ethical and legal organ donation practices.
Mr. Biswajit Debbarama, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Tripura, distributed informational leaflets among all the attendees. These leaflets highlighted important information regarding organ donation, the benefits of transplantation, and the contact details of the MOHAN Foundation offices across India. The leaflets also included important contact numbers of transplant hospitals in the state of Tripura.
Approximately 17 patients and their accompanying attendants participated in the awareness session. Although modest in number, the attendance reflected the focused nature of OPD based educational activities and the practical limitations related to OPD scheduling and patient flow.
