On April 20, 2026, Mr. Biswajit Debbarma, Ambassador of MOHAN Foundation, Tripura, conducted an informative organ donation awareness session for the staff and labourers of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), Nandanagar, Agartala, West Tripura.
The session was organised at the invitation of Mr. Molendra Debbarma, In-charge of the FCI Godown. Mrs. Nipak Modak, Program Executive, accompanied the Biswajit for the programme. Mrs. Nipak Modak introduced the audience to MOHAN Foundation’s work over the past 28 years in promoting organ donation across India. She highlighted that the foundation is led by Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, and currently operates through 15 centres across the country, with its headquarters in Chennai. She also noted that the foundation initiated its activities in Tripura in 2025.
Mr. Biswajit Debbarma then led the session, explaining that organ donation is possible in cases of brain stem death, which may result from conditions such as road traffic accidents, brain stroke, or brain tumour during ICU care. He outlined the protocol for certification of brain stem death by an authorised medical board and emphasised that consent from the deceased’s family is essential before organ retrieval.
He further informed participants that organs such as kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, intestines, and pancreas can be donated, along with tissues like corneas and skin.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks to FCI for hosting the programme, followed by the distribution of informational leaflets. Approximately 41 participants attended the session.
