An Awareness Session on Organ Donation conducted at ESIC Medical College, Telangana

  • On August 5, 2022, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session at ESIC Medical College for promoting Deceased and Cadaveric Donation among first year medical students. Dr. Bhanu Prakash and Ms. Srividya Subramanian were the key resource.

     

    ESIC Medical CollegeHyderabad is a prestigious medical college set up in 2016 under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt. of India and has been promoting deceased Organ Donation since. Dr. Prakash introduced the session by giving a brief on MOHAN Foundation and kept the audience engaged throughout the session.

     

    The following topics were discussed in detail by Dr.Prakash and Ms. Srividya :

    • Importance and need of Organ Donation
    • Importance of Cadaveric Body Donations
    • Brain death and clinical aspects of Brain Death
    • Grief Counselling and stages of grief
    • Green Corridor
    • Future of Organ Donation in country.

     

    The session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed the discussion and several questions were posed by the audience namely :

    • Procedure for Body Donation
    • Consent forms for Body Donation
    • Way forward for Organ Donation in the country

     

    The importance of family consent was explained in detail and an Organ Donation movie was played for the students. Dr. Prakash and Ms. Srividya where felicitated for contributing maximum cadavers to the college and were given a memento for delivering a guest lecture on Organ  and Cadaveric Donations.

     

    Close to 100 students attended the session out of which 90 students pledged to donate organs. Ms . Srividya motivated the students to pledge for Organ donation and spoke about several courses of MOHAN Foundation to the students.

     

    Donor Cards and brochures were distributed at the end of the session.
