Organ Donation Awareness at Little Flower Matriculation Higher Secondary School

  • Every year MOHAN Foundation gets an invitation from TIMES OF INDIA for creating awareness program in the schools and colleges during the organ donation week in August. This year MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness program on Organ Donation in Little Flower Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kundrathur on 7th August 2017. Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive represented MOHAN Foundation.

    The program started with an introduction speech about the program by Ms. Konsalin Nishanthini, she further invited Mr. S. John Xavier Thangarajan, Principal, Mr. Siva Shankar and Mr. Karthikeyan from Times of India to the dais. The Principal felicitated Mr. Siva Shankar and Mr. Karthikeyan with a shawl. The program was attended by 160 students of commerce and science group studying in 11th standard.

    The session about the concepts on Organ donation started with a video about Tamil Nadu which is leading in the field of Organ Donation and number donation happen till now in Tamil Nadu. Within no time Mr. Siva Shankar started the concepts about Organ Donation by explain about Why, What, Who and How on Organ Donation. Instead of explaining the slides in the presentation he kept on asking the question to the students so that the students will grasp the topic quickly. The topics that were discussed:

    1. The organs that can be donated
    2. Brain Death and Coma
    3. Myths about Organ Donation

    The session went on for 30 minutes and some question asked:

    1. If we have a tattoo, can we donate our organs?
    2. If we didn’t take a donor card, can we donate our organs?

    The session continued with a game called “Missing Letters” which was about Organ Donation and its concepts. The students were given one pen as a gift when they answered the questions by the Principal. The students enjoyed the game very well.

    The session ended with a video on an Organ Donor who donated the organ and saved up to nine lives. The students promised that when they attain the age of 18 they will pledge their organs and take up a donor card which will help in saving many lives.

    The program ended with vote of thanks by the Principal, he thanked Mr. Siva Shankar for giving awareness about this noble cause to the students. MOHAN Foundation thanks Mr. Karthikeyan from TIMES OF INDIA and Mr. Sethuraman, HR of the school for organizing this program.
