Website Launched for Organ Donation in Jaipur: Raj’s Promise to State

It is a novel idea to come up with
a website to register for organ transplant. Minister Rajendra Rathore launched the website www.rnos.org
on Saturday. Mohan Foundation’s managing trustee, Dr. Sunil Shroff and Jaipur
Citizen Forum’s Chairman, Rajiv Arora were also present at the launch. Patients
can now directly register online for their organ transplantation needs by just
visiting this website. This will enable lesser waiting time for needy patients.
The
website maintains a Toll Free Organ Donation Helpline and has specific
links to various organs, viz., Kidneys; Liver; Heart; Lungs; Cornea;
Cardiac Valve; Pancreas and Multi Visceral. It also specifies the
approved hospitals for transplant. It has many other useful links. Registering
on the website will make sure that organ transplant is done according to the
patients’ waiting list. The patients’ name gets registered for the appropriate
organ transplant and at the approved hospital.
The
programme launched by the Government of Rajasthan is similar to that of the cadaver transplant programme
run by Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is notable that both these states are at the
forefront of the programme in the county. Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra
and Karnataka are the other states maintaining an organ-sharing network. Jaipur now holds the pride of being the first northern
state to launch a web registry for organ transplants.
SMS
Hospital in Jaipur will soon have heart transplant facility. The hospital has
been directed to make full-length plans to enable cadaver kidney transplant
reality within 50 days. Rathore has promised all support to SMS hospital in
this venture. He also stated that road accident victims who were brain dead can
donate a number of organs and the need for awareness creation among the
affected families is significant.
Mohan Foundation managing trustee, Dr. Sunil Shroff
said, "Since diabetes and hypertension has become quite common, the cases
of kidney ailments have also increased which has pushed up the demand for
kidney transplant. There is a huge shortage of kidneys in comparison to the
demand of kidney to be transplanted." He also stated that cadaver
transplant can organ shortage can be dealt with if, all of the brain dead people
donate their organs to the needy. An estimated 60 percent of 1.4 lakh accident
victims every year are reported brain dead.
