Louisiana residents can now register to become organ donors in two ways. The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency manages the organ donor register in the state, which is called Donate Life Louisiana.
According to the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), residents can register online and in person to become organ donors.
Residents who wish to register online can visit DMV website and be directed to the Louisiana Organ & Tissue Donor Registry website, to complete the online registry.
People always have the option to register in person at local DMV office, which can be done when applying for a driver’s license or ID card.
Over 123,000 people are on the organ donor waiting list in the country. Approximately 21 people die or become too sick before an organ transplant each day, states the DMV website.
The DMV states, “When you register as an organ donor in Louisiana, you are giving the gift of life to someone in need upon your death.”
