On November 22, 2024, at 6:40 a.m., Mr. Bharat Bhushan Gupta contacted the MOHAN Foundation helpline requesting the eye donation of his 68-year-old younger brother, Mr. Pawan Kumar Gupta, who had passed away around 3:00 a.m. due to chronic liver disease. His call was attended by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, who immediately shared Mr. Bharat’s details with Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer at MOHAN Foundation–NCR. Ms. Simran promptly connected with the family, offered support, and collected all required information.

Mr. Bharat shared that the family wished to honour Mr. Pawan’s last wish—to donate his eyes. Before reaching out to MOHAN Foundation, he had already contacted three eye banks in Delhi. Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital reviewed the case and informed the family that, due to an existing infection, corneal donation for transplantation was not possible, though the tissues could still be used for research.

Understanding the family’s desire to carry forward his wish, Ms. Simran sensitively counselled them about the possibility of skin donation. They requested some time to speak with other family members and process the information.

Nearly two hours later, around 10:00 a.m., the deceased’s daughter, Ms. Anusha, informed Ms. Simran that the family wished to move ahead with skin donation. Ms. Simran then coordinated with the Skin Bank at R&R Hospital, New Delhi, and the team began preparing to visit the residence.

However, before the retrieval team arrived, the family called back, hesitant to proceed. The deceased’s wife was deeply emotional and worried that the donation might cause visible disfigurement to the body, especially with relatives and friends expected to visit.

Sensing their distress, Ms. Simran reached out again, gently and patiently addressing their concerns. She explained the skin donation procedure in detail and reassured them that there would be no visible changes to the body, preserving dignity for the final rites. She also shared how donated skin plays a life-saving role for patients with severe burns.

This reassurance brought comfort to the family, and they agreed to proceed. The R&R Hospital retrieval team reached the residence around 1:00 p.m. and successfully completed the skin retrieval.

Later that evening, Ms. Simran spoke to Ms. Anusha, who shared that the entire family—and even visiting relatives—felt proud of the decision. She expressed deep appreciation for the professionalism and respectful conduct of the R&R team, mentioning that seeing them work in uniform felt like a moment of honour for the family.

Mr. Bharat also conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Simran for guiding them throughout the process. He added that they were unaware that skin donation was possible and expressed his own willingness to pledge his skin in the future.

The family extended warm thanks to the MOHAN Foundation for supporting them in fulfilling their loved one’s final wish and enabling a meaningful contribution that will go on to help save lives.

On November 4, 2025, at around 10:15 PM, Mr. Sanjay Jain, a resident of Narnaul, Mahendergarh, contacted the MOHAN Foundation helpline seeking assistance with a corneal donation. The call was received by Ms. Kavitha Aneesh, Marketing Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation, who promptly shared Mr. Sanjay’s details with Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand. Mr. Sanchit immediately reached out to the family to coordinate the case and gather the necessary information.

Mr. Sanjay informed Mr. Sanchit that his father, Mr. Kewal Jain, who had a history of hepatitis, had suddenly collapsed at home due to a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the nearest Civil Hospital, Narnaul, where a Registered Medical Practitioner declared him brought dead at 7:20 PM. He further shared that the body would be brought home after the completion of hospital formalities.

To ensure medical suitability, Mr. Sanchit inquired whether Mr. Kewal had any history of sepsis or other communicable diseases. After confirming with his family, Mr. Sanjay stated that there were none. Mr. Sanchit then guided the family on the correct steps to preserve the corneas and prevent them from drying. He also sensitively discussed the possibility of skin donation; however, the family opted to proceed solely with corneal donation.

To facilitate retrieval, Mr. Sanchit contacted multiple eye banks in Haryana, but all declined the case due to the advanced age of the deceased. He then reached out to Mr. Raj, Grief Counsellor at Arpana Hospital and Eye Bank, Madhuban,Karnal, Harayana, located nearly 210 km away. Without hesitation, Mr. Raj assured his support and immediately mobilized his team to travel through the night. The eye bank team reached the residence and successfully retrieved the corneas at 4:30 AM on November 5, 2025.

At 61 years of age, Mr. Kewal Ram Jain gave the priceless gift of sight to two individuals through his selfless act of corneal donation.

MOHAN Foundation offers its heartfelt gratitude to the family of Mr. Kewal Ram Jain for their noble decision. We also acknowledge the swift response and unwavering commitment of the team from Arpana Hospital and Eye Bank, whose timely coordination made this donation possible.

The family expressed their appreciation - shared by his son Mr. Sanjay Jain “Because of your timely coordination, this donation was successful, and my father’s wish could be fulfilled.
