Youth movement of St Thomas Marthoma Church, Vettiyar organises a talk on organ donation

  • On 14th December, 2014 an awareness session on organ donation was organized by Youth movement members of St Thomas Marthoma Church, Vettiyar. The awareness programme was held at Church hall after the Sunday holy mass. The Youth movement members of the church are conducting seven day programme including food donation, study material distribution, blood donation, organ donation awareness camp etc.

     

    The Programme was inaugurated by Adv. Vincent, Vettiyar panchayath president; Presidential address was delivered by Mr Murali, Panchayath member. After that Ms Saranya S, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed in KNOS, Chief Guest of the program delivered the talk on organ donation. About 50 members were present at the talk. The awareness session began at 11 AM and started with Ms Saranya explaining about KNOS and its functions. She also explained about the Objective of KNOS, Transplantation of Human Organ act- 1994 and its amendments, Activities of KNOS, KNOS patient registry,  allocation of each organs, organs which can be donated after brain death and cardiac death, importance of carrying  donor card. The session was followed by a footage covered by Mathrubhumi News on cadaver donation and a movie clipping about the importance of cadaver organ donation was shown to the audience.

     

    Some of the participants asked questions about the procedure of eye donation, Can diabetic patients donate their organs etc. All participants pledged for organ donation by signing the donor cards. At the end of the session, coordinator of the youth movement formally thanked for conducting the session.
