Talk and information stall on deceased organ donation at Santha Nirankari Satsang Bhavan, Nagpur

  • MOHAN Foundation Nagpur centre was invited by Mr. Avinash G Nebhani, follower of the Santha Nirankari Satsang Bhavan Panchpaoli, Nagpur on 27th April 2014 to give a talk on deceased organ donation.

     

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede of MOHAN Foundation conducted that talk. With the help of a powerpoint presentation he explained the concepts of Organ Donation. He highlighted that organs and tissues can be donated after brain death, natural death, live donation and concept of brain death.  He explained that after brain death it is impossible to come back to life & if the brain death patient’s family wants to donate organs then they can help several people. Information about other functions of MOHAN Foundation like helpline number of MOHAN Foundation, training programs was given. He requested all to visit the MOHAN Foundation website for more information.

     

     

    It was heartening to see, Ms. Monica Sumra, a member of Indian Womens Cricket Team taking an interest in Deceased Organ Donation. She visited the stall of Mohan Foundation 
    and pledged to donate organs.

    Miss. Kanchan Shewde & Mr. Bulu Behera transplant coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur centre manned an information stall with help of brochures, consent forms, and donor cards. Approximately 325 devotees visited the awareness stall and 150 picked Donor card.

     

    Question raised by participants.

    1) Brain death patient family member get the priority for organ transplant?

    2) Is there any possibility of commercial dealings in organ transplant?

    3) How long can organs can be preserved?

     

    Some people suggested that the Donor card should be lamination.
