Seminar on Organ Donation at Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted a Seminar on Organ Donation on October 20, 2022 for around 100 students of 3rd year BSC nursing students of Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing. It was conducted at the Seminar hall to attend the seminar. Dr. Janardhanan, Asst Professor, Department of Critical Care, SRIHER, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H of MOHAN Foundation were the resource persons for the sessions.

    The resource persons were welcomed by Vice Principal Dr. S ShanthiDr. Janardhanan was the first speaker and gave an account on Brain death and its certification.  He explained the anatomy of brain stem and the cause of brain death.  He listed all the clinical tests for the certification of death.  He also explained in detail about the Apnoe test and the other ancillary tests.  The session ended with a short quiz.

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H (Helpline counselor) began the session with a motivational video. She then gave a talk on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what and when donation can happen, brain death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation.  and also the usage of organ donation helpline 1800 103 7100. It was very interactive session with students.

    Dr. Hemal Kanvinde (Quality Assurance Officer) conducted a role play based activity: Hospital based scenario of deceased organ donation. The protocol in a hospital for a deceased donation was explained using this activity.

    The Seminar ended with real life case discussion during grief counselling and transplant coordination.

    The students were eagerly waited to pledge and 15 students collected their donor cards. The session ended with the Vote of Thanks by Faculty Coordinator Mrs. Sara Sapharina.

    As a gesture of appreciation Dr. Hemal presented the Stories of Transplant book to Dr. Janardhanan and Mrs. Sara Sapharnia.
