Organ donation concepts explained to the Nurses in Intensive Medical care Unit (IMCU) & Poison Control Centre at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

  •  Ms. Sunitha A.T and Mr. Prakash. K, Transplant Coordinators from MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on the concept of organ donation for 2nd and 3rd year nursing student in Intensive Medical Care Unit (IMCU) & Poison Control Centre at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital on 13th December 2013.

     

    The session started with a group interaction to bring out their view and ideas about the organ donation. Ms. Sunitha explained the following topics during the session:  who can be a donor? What is Natural/cardiac Death? What is Brain Death? The differences between Brain death and Coma. The organs and the tissues that can be donated after Brain Death. The role of a nurse in early identification  and maintenance  of a Potential Brain Death Patient?  The Transplant Coordinator Training Programme.

     

    At the end of the session she also explained about the donor card and  its importance.  Totally 16 students attended the session and all expressed their wish to pledge for organ donation  by picking a donor card and  by signing the form.
