Organ Donation Awareness for volunteers NSS students of Government College of Arts and Science

  • Affiliated with Thiruvalluvar University, Government Arts and Science college provides quality education to the rural community around Sholinghur. Apart from curriculum the staff ensure that the students are equipped with social skills too. On March 07, 2023, An Awareness event was organized on AIDS for  the NSS volunteers by Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and Tamilnadu Government and on the same event MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to enlighten the students on the Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation.

    The session begun with Tamil Thai Vazhthu (state anthem of Tamil Nadu), followed by dance and poetry recital and warm welcome song by the students.  Dr Sekar, Faculty and RRC Program Officer, welcomed the guests and introduced them to the audience. Dr Nedunczheyan, the Principal addressed the gathering and highlighting the importance of knowledge on Health and Sanitation, Importance of Organ Donation. Followed by Ms. Geetha Rani, District supervisor, District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU), explained the various factors of AIDS. Ms Chitra Kala, ICTC Counsellor walked the students through the social skills of treating and supporting the sick person. 

    With the two medical related sessions laying a foundation it was easy for Mr. Ganesh C, Marketing Coordinator, to impart the knowledge on Organ Donation and Transplantation to the students. He explained the concept of brain death, when and what organs and tissues can be donated, how organs are allotted by the government, myths and scams on organ donation and concluded the session with effective usage of Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100. Totally 54 students and teachers attended the sessions. It was concluded with vote of thanks by a student and singing of the National Anthem.
