

Department of Allied Health Sciences, Avinashilingam University for Women organized a webinar on Organ Donation and Transplantation. More than 120 students attended this seminar on Feb 19, 2024. Dr Hemal Kanvinde Q&A Officer, MOHAN Foundation and Ms Arshiya Fathima H, Helpline Counselor were the resource persons.
Dr Uma Devi, Coordinator School of Health Sciences welcomed the gathering and Dr Swapna Asst. Prof School of Health Sciences introduced the topic. The session then started with Dr Hemal Kanvinde speaking on the work of MOHAN Foundation and on the Concepts of Organ Donation. She spoke of the causes of organ failure and need for organs. She then explained who can be organ donors, what tissues and organs can be donated and the conditions for donation. The explanation of brain death was given and the difference between brain death and coma was explained. Further how to register as a donor, online courses run by MOHAN Foundation were elaborated upon.
The session ended with the testimonial heart recipient.
