On November 25, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness talk on organ donation for the students at the Nirmala Institute of Education (DHM) in Panjim, Goa.
Mr. Pereira began by sharing a deeply personal story about his sister-in-law, who underwent a kidney transplant. This life-changing experience motivated him to actively promote organ donation. Over the years, he has conducted over a hundred awareness sessions, participated in information desks, and contributed to events such as the Carnival and Purple Fest. He emphasised the importance of raising awareness so that more people can support the cause and help “GIFT A LIFE” to those suffering from end-stage organ failure in Goa and across India. He also mentioned the transplant hospitals in Goa and the organs and tissues that can be transplanted at these facilities.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira covered key aspects of organ donation, including:
• Laws related to organ donation
• Types of death and their relevance to organ donation
• Organs and tissues that can be donated in cases of circulatory death and brain stem death
• An explanation of brain stem death and its implications
• How individuals can express their consent for organ donation
• Health precautions, particularly for individuals with hypertension or diabetes
Dr. Russell J. De Souza, the principal, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Pereira and the MOHAN Foundation for conducting the session. Mr. Pereira requested that the principal share the presentation and a short, animated film on organ donation created by Ms. Shweta Gupta with the staff and students to provide a better understanding of organ donation.
A total of 200 students attended the session.
