  • On June 26, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at Orchid Hospital, Lalpur, Ranchi, with the objective of educating patients, their attendants, hospital staff, and visitors about the importance of organ and tissue donation. A total of 30 participants attended the session and actively participated in the awareness program.

The session was conducted by Mr. Mukesh Kumar Singh from MOHAN Foundation. He explained the significance of organ and tissue donation and emphasized that one organ donor can save multiple lives through the donation of vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines, as well as tissues including the cornea, skin, bones, and heart valves. He also highlighted the urgent need for organ donors in India and encouraged participants to support this noble cause by spreading awareness within their families and communities.

During the session, participants were educated about the concepts of living organ donation, deceased organ donation, and brain death. The difference between brain death and coma was explained in simple language, along with the legal and medical aspects of deceased organ donation. The importance of informing family members about one's decision to donate organs was also emphasized, as family consent plays a crucial role in organ donation after death.

The session was highly interactive, and participants asked several important questions. One participant asked, "How can we take the organ donation pledge?" It was explained that interested individuals can register their pledge through authorized organizations such as MOHAN Foundation by completing an organ donation pledge form and informing their family members about their decision.

Another participant asked, "If I wish to donate only a specific organ, will other organs also be retrieved?" The participants were informed that only the organs and tissues for which consent has been given by the donor or the donor's family are retrieved. No organ or tissue is removed without proper authorization and consent.

A third participant asked, "Is there any financial benefit or profit from taking an organ donation pledge?" It was clarified that organ donation is a completely voluntary and altruistic act. Neither the donor nor the donor's family receives any financial benefit, as the donation of human organs is not a commercial activity. The true reward of organ donation is the opportunity to save or improve the lives of others.

At the conclusion of the session, three participants voluntarily pledged to donate their eyes, reflecting the positive impact of the awareness program. Informational pamphlets were distributed among the attendees, and all participants appreciated the initiative. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the management of Orchid Hospital for their support and cooperation. Overall, the program was successful in increasing awareness, clearing misconceptions, and inspiring participants to support the life-saving cause of organ and tissue donation.
