An organ donation awareness session was conducted on November 2, 2025 at the RTO Office, Wadala, Mumbai with the objective of educating the staff and public visitors about the significance of organ donation. The session witnessed an encouraging participation of around 70 attendees. The program received continuous support from Mr. Pawar, a police officer, whose coordination and presence played an important role in the smooth conduct of the event.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Sakshi Kshirsagar, who began by introducing the work and vision of MOHAN Foundation, highlighting its commitment to promoting organ donation and strengthening public awareness across the country.
Ms. Sakshi initiated the discussion by assessing the participants’ basic understanding of organ donation. She addressed simple yet essential questions such as:
She explained the life-saving impact of organ donation and clarified the difference between living donation and deceased donation, touching upon the legal framework, the family consent process, and the role of the Authorization Committee in cases of living organ donation.
Participants were introduced to the concepts of cardiac death and brain stem death. Ms. Sakshi detailed the tissues that can be donated after cardiac death—such as corneas, skin, heart valves, and bones—and elaborated on the roles of eye banks and skin banks in tissue retrieval and preservation.
She further explained brain stem death, its causes, and the organs and tissues that can be retrieved in such situations. She also touched upon the procedures followed during deceased organ donation, the creation of green corridors, the functioning of ZTCC, the process of patient waiting lists, and provided insights into the current organ donation scenario in India.
The session remained highly interactive, with participants asking several practical questions.
