  • Team MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session at The Sankara Nethralaya Academy, Alandur, Chennai on July 8 2022. The team consisted of Mr. Pranav Sridhar K, Ms. N Naga Shree (interns) and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde (Quality Assurance Officer at MOHAN Foundation).

The session had been scheduled for an hour from 11:30 AM. The team arrived at the Academy at 10:30 AM and interacted with the Principal Dr. Anuja R Singh on the activities of MOHAN Foundation, and opportunities for further collaboration between Sankara Nethralaya Academy and the Foundation in the future.

Around 50 students pursuing Allied Health Sciences had gathered in the Learning Hall. After a brief introduction by the Academy staff, Dr. Hemal welcomed the students to the session and handed over the mic to Mr. Pranav for his presentation. Mr. Pranav covered the varied topics in the field of organ donation from the two kinds of death, myths versus reality, to how one can pledge their organs.

After the presentation by, Dr. Hemal answered queries from the students (including a question on which people were prohibited from donating their organs), following which a short quiz was held to encourage more interactions and gauge the understanding of the students.

Dr. Hemal then took over the mic, talking about the 10-step organ transplantation pathway. Role-play placards were used and a very interactive session followed. Chocolates were distributed to those who answered the quiz questions.

Courses  offered by MOHAN Foundation were explained briefly to the students.

After the hour-long session, a number of students  (7) were eager to pledge their organs. The MOHAN Foundation team were glad that the students found the interaction helpful. At the end, the team thanked the Academy staff for being supportive and making it possible to conduct the awareness session.
