On October 17, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur, conducted an online awareness session on organ donation for the nursing staff of Prakash Hospital and Research Center, Uran-Islampur. The objective of the session was to enhance knowledge and understanding of organ and tissue donation among healthcare professionals and to encourage them to play an active role in promoting this noble cause.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Veena Wathore, Ms. Neha Sailwar, and Ms. Bhagyashree Nighot from MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur.
Ms. Veena Wathore began the session with an in-depth presentation on organ and tissue donation, explaining its significance in saving lives and the crucial role healthcare professionals play in the donation process. She elaborated on the concept of brain stem death, types of organ donors (living and deceased), and organs and tissues that can be donated. Ms. Veena also discussed the legal framework and ethical aspects of organ donation under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA). Additionally, she emphasized how nurses and medical staff can act as motivators within hospitals by providing accurate information and guiding families during critical situations.
Following this, Ms. Neha Sailwar provided an overview of the various online training courses offered by MOHAN Foundation, including the Transplant Coordination Professional Certificate (TCPC) and other short-term programs designed for healthcare staff. She also shared detailed information about the process of taking an organ donation pledge, explaining step-by-step how individuals can register as organ donors, either online or through physical pledge forms. Ms. Neha encouraged participants to not only take the pledge themselves but also motivate others within their hospitals and communities to become donors.
To conclude the session, Ms. Bhagyashree Nighot shared a real-life case story related to organ donation, which helped participants understand the emotional and practical challenges involved in coordinating donations. Her story highlighted the compassionate approach required when interacting with donor families and the immense impact that timely organ donation can create.
The session received an encouraging response, with 30 nursing staff members attending and actively participating in the discussion. The participants expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights shared and showed interest in learning more about organ donation and MOHAN Foundation’s training opportunities.
