Ms. Pallavi Kumar invited as speaker to NEPHROCON, organised by Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, at Holiday Inn District Centre, Mayur Vihar, New Delhi.

  • On March 10, 2024, Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, NCR, was invited as a speaker to address the delegates on “Ingredients for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation Programme” and “Grief Counselling and Making the Ask for Organ Donation" in the workshop titled “NEPHROCON,” organised by Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, at the Holiday Inn District Centre, Mayur Vihar, New Delhi. Ms. Pallavi was accompanied by Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, NCR.

     

    The workshop covered various important topics related to kidney health, such as the choice of fluids in critically ill patients, contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI), pregnancy-related AKI, metabolic syndrome, diabetic mellitus, and diabetic kidney disease.

     

    Ms. Pallavi led a combined workshop covering the subjects of "Ingredients for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation Programme” and "Grief Counselling and Making the Ask for Organ Donation." She used a PowerPoint presentation to discuss the following subjects:

     

    • Early brain death identification and certification

    • The role of a hospital committee in the process of deceased organ donation

    • The importance of interdepartmental coordination

    • The importance of the head of the hospital in the process

    • Know the status of the organ transplant in the hospital.

    • The importance of advocacy and awareness regarding organ donation

    • Decoupling: timing of the request for organ donation

    • Breaking the news of death

    • Stages of grief

    • Making the request for organ donation: why and how it should be done

     

    Ms. Pallavi went into great detail about the importance of hospital management’s role in the organ donation procedure in any hospital. She also stressed the crucial role that a hospital's culture and structure play in the entire undertaking. She continued by outlining SOPs and precise protocols for diagnosing brain death, certifying brain death, maintaining brain death, handling medico-legal cases, and addressing other matters, including expenses. To further the discussion, Ms. Pallavi participated in a panel discussion on the aforementioned topics following the session.

     

    The audience ultimately expressed gratitude to Ms. Pallavi Kumar for her amazing and informative session.

     

    Close to 150 participants attended the workshop.
