On 12th January 2014, Facebook Arunattu Vellalar Sangam (FBAVS) celebrated its 3rd anniversary at Arunattu Vellalar Sangam, Tiruvanaikoil, Trichy. FBAVS was initiated by a group of likeminded youngsters of the Arunattu Vellalar community which provides matrimonial service for its own community. The members of FBAVS are also passionate towards serving humanity and they have been helping in the education and health sectors.
This year they invited MOHAN Foundation to spread the awareness on “Organ Donation” among their community members. At the awareness kiosk, the members were sensitized about deceased organ donation, concept of brain death and importance of organ and tissue donation. About 60 people of various age groups pledged for organ donation and two of them expressed their wish to conduct a similar kind of programme in the future.
They also initiated an event called “Spotlight” which felicitates the champions of Arunattu Vellalar community in different fields. This year people from 8 different fields were honoured for their exemplary work – Humanity, Science and Technology, Sports, Education, Medicine, Social Service, Woman in different arena and Student for Excellency. Mrs. Sujatha Niranjan from MOHAN Foundation who also belongs to the Arunattu Vellalar community was felicitated in the Woman in different arena category for her work in deceased organ donation.
