  • The Cadaver Transplant Program (CTP) Office of Tamil Nadu Government organized a meeting to discuss new guidelines to allocate lung and heart from deceased donations. The meeting was held at the Department of Anesthesia Hall at 3.00pm on 20th September 2014.   MOHAN Foundation was invited to participate in the meeting.

The CTP office distributed a sample of the criteria and these were taken as a base for further discussion.  Surgeons and transplant coordinators from participating hospitals (MIOT, Fortis Malar, Apollo, Frontier Life Line, Madras Medical Mission) attended the meeting.  Dr Amalorpavanathan, Convenor, CTP in his introduction mentioned that in the past two years there have been more families willing to donate heart and lungs,   also hospitals joining in this program have increased, hence it has become essential to refine the existing guidelines for allocation of these organs.  He requested all doctors to provide him with simple, verifiable yet rigid criteria for allocation.

At the end of the discussion it was concluded that there shall be a standard waitlist based on seniority and an urgent waitlist based on suggestions given by the doctors. It was decided that the draft guidelines shall be circulated to all hospitals.

Dr. Sumana, Ms. Sujatha, Mr. Ananth, Mr. Prakash, Ms. Sunitha and Dr. Hemal represented MOHAN Foundation at the meeting.
