On January 9, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at the Surgery Outpatient Department (OPD) of the New OPD Block, RIMS Imphal.
The session was led by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation Imphal, and organised in collaboration with Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Medical Social Worker (Assisting Transplant Program), RIMS Imphal, as part of the ongoing public education initiatives.
Ms. Pritam initiated the session with an interactive discussion to assess participants’ baseline knowledge of organ donation. She provided an overview of the organs and tissues eligible for donation and clearly differentiated between living organ donation and deceased organ donation. She also shared the current status of organ donation in Manipur, highlighting that kidney transplant services are presently available in the government sector at both RIMS and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Ms. Priya further addressed the existing gap between the demand for and availability of organs in the state and encouraged participants to actively support awareness efforts on deceased organ donation. She clarified common myths and misconceptions, emphasizing that organ donation can save lives and restore hope for patients with end-stage organ failure.
The session concluded with appreciation for the participants’ active involvement and encouragement to consider pledging their organs. Informational pamphlets were distributed to strengthen understanding and address any remaining queries. Nearly 50 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into the importance and impact of organ donation.
