On 18th October, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation was conducted for the employees of Cairn India Limited, Gurgaon. Mr. Paras Duggal, Marketing Manager and Ms. Seema Yadav, Transplant Coordinator from Medanta-The Medicity, Gurgaon took the initiative to coordinate and organise the session.
Cairn India is amongst the world's fastest growing independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies. It contributes to almost 25 per cent of India's domestic crude oil production. Through its affiliates, Cairn India has been operating for more than 15 years playing an active role in developing India's oil and gas resources.
Dr. S. B. Bhagat, Company Medical Officer addressed the staff and introduced the speakers. Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR made a presentation on organ donation. Followed by; Dr. Ravi Mohanka, Senior Consultant, Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, Medanta-the Medicity, Gurgaon talking to the audience about organ transplantation.
The queries raised by the participants were answered by the speakers. Many of them said that they were not aware about the nuances of organ donation and transplantation. Brochures with detailed information about the issue were distributed and donor cards were made available for those interested in pledging their organs.
A few employees also showed interest in organising similar sessions for other groups of people. One of the women present was a Lioness Club member and said she would like the Foundation to address the members of her Club. She collected 25 cards to be distributed among the interested members.
About 22 employees attended the talk and around 24 of them picked the donor card.
