MOHAN Foundation Conducts Two-Day Sensitisation Session at on Organ Donation at RIMS, Imphal.

  • On May 6 and 7, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted a two-day sensitisation session on organ donation at the Banting Hall of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. The sessions were organised in collaboration with Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Medical Social Worker (Assisting Transplant Program), RIMS Imphal, for the security personnel of the institute.

     

    The sessions were conducted by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator, Northeast and Project Lead, Manipur, and attended by Mr. Bidyananda, Senior Program Executive, Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation Imphal. Mr. Lirenthun N. Kithun, Project Lead, Nagaland, and Ms. Sedekeino Rino, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation Nagaland, also attended the first day’s session as part of a field visit training programme.

     

    Day 1: May 6, 2026

    The session commenced with Ms. Pritam Chongtham introducing the MOHAN Foundation team and the topic of organ donation to the participants.

     

    Ms. Monica conducted the awareness session and explained the concept of organ donation, including the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated on the distinction between living organ donation and deceased organ donation and highlighted the increasing number of patients awaiting organ transplantation who depend on the generosity of donors for a second chance at life.

     

    During the session, participants were informed about the organ donation pledge process and the significance of pledging organs. Ms. Monica also emphasised that family consent remains essential for organ retrieval even if an individual has pledged to donate organs during their lifetime. The session concluded with an appeal to encouraging participants to consider organ donation as a noble and life-saving act.

     

    Mr. Leiphrakpam Devananda, Security In-Charge, RIMS, shared that the information provided during the session would greatly contribute to improving both personal understanding and professional responsibilities regarding organ donation. Smt. Soibam Ongbi Satyabhama, Security Personnel, also spoke about the emotional significance of organ donation and mentioned that her nephew’s story had been presented during the session, which further strengthened her support for the cause.

     

    At the end of the session, A Legacy of Love, a short film produced by MOHAN Foundation on organ donation, was screened to enhance awareness and understanding among the participants.

     

    Day 2: May 7, 2026

    The second day’s session was again conducted by Ms. Monica, who introduced the MOHAN Foundation team and revisited the topic of organ donation with the participants. She further elaborated on the organs and tissues that can be donated and explained the difference between living and deceased organ donation. The growing need for organ donors due to the increasing number of patients awaiting transplantation was also highlighted.

     

    Information regarding the organ donation pledge process was shared, and participants were once again informed about the importance of obtaining family consent for organ retrieval after death. Ms. Monica concluded the session by encouraging participants to support organ donation and help spread awareness about the cause within their communities.

     

    Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed at the end of both sessions to reinforce the key messages shared during the programme. Nearly 100 participants attended the sessions and gained valuable insights into the importance of organ donation. Four individuals also came forward to pledge their organs.
