Launch of DONATE Initiative

  • DONATE (The Deceased Organ donation Network and Transplant Education), the organ donation initiative was launched by Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), New Delhi on 5th December, 2012 in India International Centre in memory of late Mr. Tej Ram who was chairman of board of trust, SGRH to felicitate his family for their noble act of donating his organs. This event mainly focussed on raising awareness on deceased organ donation programme in the country.

     

    Congress President Sonia Gandhi's daughter Ms.Priyanka Gandhi Vadera and CPI-M party leader Ms. Brinda Karat were among those who pledged to donate their organs at the event.  Donor families were also honoured at the event along with experience sharing from recipient families on how their life changed after the transplant.

     

    Dr. Sunil Shroff was invited as one of the speakers to highlight the need of pledging one’s organs. He shared statistics on the number of people suffering from end stage failure of different organs vis-à-vis the current organ donation rate across different cities/states of India.

     

    Apart from ORBO and Sir Gangaram’s stall, MOHAN Foundation had also put up a stall at the event where donor cards and flyers were distributed. 16 people pledged their organs at the stall.
