Half day workshop on Organ Donation by Ardra Charitable Society, Kottayam

  • Ardra Charitable Society of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church organized a half day workshop for the volunteers of their society on 14.03.2014 at Catholicate Aramana, Devalokam,Kottayam. Mrithasanjeevani team was invited to be the speakers on that day. Ms. Kavitha, Project Manager, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani and Mr. Aneesh . P. V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani were the faculty for  the workshop.

    The workshop was inaugurated by Rev. Father.  M. K. Kurian, he appreciated the organizers and the volunteers, who come forward for the noble cause. He also appreciated the work done by Mrithasanjeevani. Following that Mr. Samuel Iype, live donor gave a special address. He shared experience during the process of donation and the support given by Fr.Davis Chiramel, Chairman, Kidney Federation of India. He said that ‘I am very proud to say I am an Organ Donor” and people should come forward to support such noble cause. The below said topics were discussed in the workshop.

     21 volunteers from different disciplines like School teachers, Lectures, Ex- minister, advocates, priest etc., participated in the workshop. After the session an open forum was given to the participants to discuss.

    Few queries were raised like:

    1. Why do the government hospital show less interest than private hospitals?

    2. How authentic is organ allocation?

    3. What is life span of a donor and recipient in each organ?

    4. Actually statistics  of  each organ of all the  zones?

    5. Does private hospitals makes money in transplantation?

    6. Cost of each transplantation and post transplantation

    7. Why media is not supporting the live donors?

    8. Who will bear the Brain death patients’ hospital charges?

    9. Few articles released in media gives negative note to the public, how this can be avoided?

    Above all queries were discussed and clarified by the speakers. Finally decision was to design a handbook for Organ donation in a simplified manner for the public to understand, they requested Mrithasanjeevani to decide.
