  • On December 30, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation in the 3rd Round Medical Camp organised by the Community Health Centre (CHC), Lilong Haoreibi, Manipur, and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, attended the programme.

The programme included health check-ups, laboratory testing, the distribution of medicines, and raising awareness about organ donation. The Medical Officer in Charge of the Health Centre, CHC, Lilong Haoreibi, and the staff coordinated the programme for the smooth running of the mela.

The MF team delivered talks to five groups of people, each consisting of 8–10 individuals. The team covered the following points, such as:

    • Organ donation and its need in society
    • Types of donations
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Facts and myths about organ donation
    • Brain death
    • The story of deceased organ donations in Manipur
    • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation

Later, Ms. Monica also delivered the talk-over community (mic) speaker, ensuring the people of the locality were heard through it. A few citizens came up and raised queries. To name a few:

    • Is registration necessary to receive an organ from a brain-dead donor?
    • The correlation between a donor card and a waiting list registry.
    • Can anybody be an organ donor?

A short discussion was also held with the groups on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about organ donation. At the end of the programme, the Medical Officer in Charge of the Health Centre thanked the MF team for taking the lead and raising awareness.

Close to 50 participants acquired knowledge about organ donation after the programme.
