Awareness Talk on Organ Donation for Pravara Institute of Medical Science

  • On 30th November 2021 Ms. Jaya Jairam from MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an online awareness session on Organ Donation for Pravara Institute of Medical Science College, Maharashtra. Students of this college and faculty members were the participants of this session. Dr. Deepali Hande, HOD initiated the session and introduced Ms. Jairam.

     

    Ms. Jaya Jairam introduced MOHAN Foundation and its activities with its vision mission and objectivies.The session was interactive and was explained with examples.

     

    Contents described in this session:

    ● What comes to your mind when you think of organ donation?

    ● Concept of organ donation and tissue donate

    ● Who can donate?

    ● No age constraint for organ donation

    ● Difference between living donor and deceased donor

    ● Types of Death

    1. Circulatory death
    2. Brain death

    ● Brain death declaration through tests and procedures.

    ● The status of organ donation in India and its requirements.

    ● Myths on organ donation and its facts.

    ● Importance of donor card and how one can become an organ donor.

    ● Helpline Number 18001037100 was shared with the participants.

     

    The motto of conducting this session was to create awareness among the students so that it can be reached to the general public. Ms. Jaya Jairam gave her own life example and inspired the participants.

     

    Questions asked by the participants:

    1. Can we donate only one organ?
    2. What is the time limit to donate our organs after our death?
    3. Are there any rules to pledge our organs?

     

    Outcome of the session: The session was inspirational and touchy because Ms. Jaya Jairam is a live example to the society.

     

    As part of contribution to the society, they assured that they will conduct an awareness session on organ donation to the general public.

     

    We thank Pravara Institute of Medical Science for giving us an opportunity and inviting us for creating an impact.
