On the release of the trailer for the Malayalam film 101 CHODHYANGAL (101 Questions) an awareness talk on organ donation was organized on 16th July 2013 at Ernakulam. The event was also marked by the release of two websites: www.101chodyangal.com & www.indrajithsukumaran.com. The programme was held at the auditorium in Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Vaduthala, Ernakulam.
Thomas Kottackakom, producer of the film invited ‘Mrithasanjeevani’, the Deceased Donor Transplantation Programme, Kerala to come address the gathering. It started with a welcome speech by Sidhartha Siva, the Director of the film. Followed by short speeches by Indrajith Sukumaran and Rachana Narayanankutty, the hero and heroine of the film. The other co-stars of the film were also present. Around 80 people attended the event. Finally, Aneesh P. V, Transplant coordinator, MOHAN Foundation addressed the gathering and educated them about the need for organ donation. He touched upon questions such as what is brain death, functions of the brain stem, organs that can be donated, about the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 and the importance of pledging ones organs through a donor card.
After the session by Aneesh P.V, Indrajit Sukumaran expressed his wish to donate his organs and signed Form 5 (Form to pledge ones organs before ones death) and also signed the donor card in front of the audience. Followed by; Rachana Narayanankutty, Sidhartha Siva and Thomas Kottackakom doing the same. Donor cards were also distributed to every member of the audience.
Thomas Kottackakom is known for his philanthropic activities such as providing scholarship for the best students in various schools and also financially supporting students who cannot afford their educational fees. He further expressed his intent to join hands with Mrithasanjeevani to spread the word on organ donation by organizing awareness programmes in schools.
