Awareness Session on Organ Donation for NCC Cadets & JCO’s at DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jaladhar, Punjab

  • On 15th July 2022, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Commandant, Col Praveen Kathiyal to conduct awareness talk on organ donation for their NCC Cadets, 8 ANO’s, 22 JCO’s at DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jaladhar, Punjab. Around 670 cadets from 19 schools, 3 universities and 11 colleges of Punjab & Jammu participated in the program.

     

    Mr. Sudhir Dewan addressed the audience telling them about the importance of organ donation. There are far more people in need of a transplant than there are people willing to donate an organ.

     

    Firstly, Ms. Neha Sharma of MOHAN Foundation introduced herself to the students and after that she asked the questions from students to check their knowledge about organ donation and transplantation.  This was followed by an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death.

     

    In this talk, she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • She explained 5 myths on organ donation with their corresponding reality check
    • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Real life story of an organ transplant patient was shared with the participants
    • Importance of the donor card
    • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
    • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

     

    The awareness talk ended with a vote of thanks by Col. Dhar. He encouraged the cadets to spread message of organ donation. The entire group got motivated and was an interactive session.

     

    In the end they showed great interest and would like to do more programs with MOHAN Foundation. Special thanks to Col Praveen Kathiyal Singh for inviting MOHAN Foundation.
